Website conventions
November 13, 2017Our group is looking at website conventions for the blues-rock genre, so we've chosen some similar bands and looked at their sites to get an idea of what ours should look like.
Rival Sons
http://www.rivalsons.com/ |
Content
- The logo is the first thing you see
- Their newest album is the next obvious thing that you see, and all of the links where you can buy it (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal)
- When you scroll there's a bar with their social media links
- The next page is their tour dates (even though there aren't any at the moment)
- Their shop is next, where there's a link to their merchandise page
- Links to where you can buy the rest of their music
- Lastly is the contact / newsletter section
Structure
- All you do is scroll down to get to the next page, or click a button to go straight to the one you want
Style
- Their logo is quite a gothic / medieval font in gold, but the rest is quite clean and sleek in black. Certain titles are in bold
- The first slide has the album cover, the next slides have a picture of the band
- There's not much writing so it's hard to tell the tone
- The photos are quite staged but they look relaxed in it
Overall
- The band appears to be quite serious about their music
- They come across as quite indie and cool
- The website looks quite professional but it's quite empty
- There's not much about the actual band, so it seems like their website is for the sole purpose of making money
- I think most people visit the website to get the links to their newest music and to their merch, and to get their contact details
Royal Blood
http://royalbloodband.com/site |
Content
- The first thing you notice is their logo
- The theme of the website fits with their most recent single and music video
- Their social media links are at the bottom (Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook), as are the links to their other pages on the website
- They also have a news page, a tour date list, a shop, a page showing their Instagram photos, and a page of their music videos
Structure
- Another scroll website, just with buttons linking to thee other pages to make it faster
Style
- They use the same font throughout (apart from the logo) which is bold and monochrome, all capital letters
- The logo is slightly gothic
- The main picture links to the music video, but they have a photos page
- Again, there's not much writing so it's hard to tell the tone
- It's quite a plain layout and design but is easy to use and looks good
Overall
- The band come across as quite serious about their music again, but use it to showcase themselves and their music more that to make money
- They look cool and sleek
- I think most people visit the website to get news on the band, watch their music videos, sign up to the newsletter, and see where they're touring
- I think they have a younger audience than Rival Sons
