Lip sync task
June 25, 2017
We were told in advance what song we would be using for the task which was 'Shape of you' by Ed Sheeran. I was lucky because I already knew the words so didn't have to learn anything new. Matt and Luke gave us a quick recap of using the camera and then showed us three different sets; one with blue walls and a fireplace, one with a green screen and a sofa, and one with coloured lights and a dolly/track. In the studio we each got a go at being the director and being in front of the camera. in the picture below I was in charge of pushing the camera along the track, and at another time I was in charge of playback, which was a job I enjoyed but you have to pay attention otherwise you might mis it!
I really enjoyed this task because it was not just fun, but gave us a chance at editing lip syncing using either the time on the playback screen, or the sharp sound of the drum at the beginning of the song clip. We then cut the clips to the beat of the song, or where it worked best with the lyrics. We were told to label all of the clips we put onto the timeline with what they were because it makes it far easier to distinguish between them when you need to choose between clips.
I think next time I would cut to the beat consistently throughout the whole video, as we didn't have quite enough time to do it this time. I would also get more variety in the shots so there's more to choose from when editing.
